AP Capstone® Diploma: 

  1. RPA offers the AP Seminar and AP Research courses, which are part of the AP Capstone program. These courses equip students with the ability to analyze information, evaluate evidence, and communicate evidence-based arguments, complementing the rigor of other AP courses.

Accelerated Learning Opportunities:

  1. Students from grades 6-12 can take classes above their grade level whenever they feel prepared.
  2. Middle school students can earn high school credits by taking high school level courses.
  3. High school students can take college courses (typically through COCC), AP courses, and even earn up to 20 college credits through a partnership with Southern Oregon University for advanced Spanish.
  4. These options allow students to accelerate their education and potentially earn an Associate's Degree by high school graduation.

College Entrance Exam Preparation:

  1. RPA offers the Pre-ACT 8/9 and Pre-ACT 9 for underclassmen.
  2. For juniors, RPA offers the pre-ACT in Fall and a full ACT exam in Spring, paid for by the school.

RPA goes beyond just offering college and AP courses - it has created an entire collegiate model high school experience that comprehensively prepares students for higher education and life after graduation. Similar to a college setting, RPA students self-create their schedules, managing a Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday rotation of classes. This requires time management skills, decision-making abilities, and commitment follow-through.

Moreover, students are held accountable for cultivating positive relationships with their peers, faculty, staff, and the broader community. They utilize technology responsibly for communications and academic purposes, mimicking the demands of a college setting. RPA also allows students to earn credits through working, volunteering, and internships. This real-world experience proves invaluable for fostering maturity, managing expectations beyond just coursework, and developing constructive relationships outside of RPA's walls. Indeed, those familiar with RPA's students often remark on their displaying a level of maturity atypical for teenagers.

This accommodates different learning styles and paces, allowing students to advance more quickly or get extra support where needed.
  2. Multiple pathways to demonstrate proficiency: Rather than just standardized tests, RPA provides flexibility in how students can showcase their mastery of concepts, whether through projects, portfolios, presentations or other assessment methods.
  3. Earning credit for outside experiences: RPA recognizes that learning happens outside the classroom too. Students can earn credit for jobs they hold or volunteer work, integrating their outside responsibilities.
  4. Accommodating extracurriculars and logistics: Course schedules can be customized to accommodate student commitments like sports, jobs, or transportation needs to ensure their overall lifestyle integrates with academics.
  5. In essence, RPA's flexibility empowers students to build a truly personalized and tailored educational experience that aligns with their specific goals, learning styles, interests, and life circumstances in ways that prepare them for post-secondary success.

RPA has partnership with Cascades East Transit (CET). CET has hubs throughout Central Oregon that run on regular schedules. Many students utilize this public transportation option that is offered free of charge to RPA students.

Student athletes can participate in sports in their home district. Flexible schedules allow students to pursue passions outside of school.

  1. Proficiency at RPA equals the demonstration of learning.
  2. In traditional educational systems, students have a finite amount of time (generally one term) to achieve the predetermined academic goals set before them. Many are able to do so, but many others are unable. Other students are bored because they have easily achieved the goals and have nothing left to do.
  3. At RPA, students take as little or as much time as they need to achieve their own academic goals. Each student, having chosen a unique class schedule, moves forward toward mastery of concepts. If students need more time to demonstrate their learning, they arrange this with their instructor. If they have finished, they move on to new challenges.

A = Mastery Level Understanding

B = Approaching Mastering Level

C = Proficient and Meets Grade Level

I = In Progress

R = Revision/Resubmission

W = Withdrawn

RPA is accredited by the Northwest Accrediting Commission, the same accrediting organization that serves the other public high schools in Central Oregon. Any student graduating from RPA with a 24-credit diploma is eligible to apply to colleges and universities in the United States.
