Sirens and Shields: An Introduction to First Responders

The June Term class Sirens and Shields: An Introduction to First Responders, introduced students to first responders including law enforcement, fire, EMTs, emergency dispatch, all branches of the military, wildland firefighting and many other jobs that entail being responsible for victims and incidents at the onset.

With the assistance of RPA’s School Resource Officer Jordan Uppendahl, the goal was to give students an understanding of real-life incidents, the dangers of these incidents, all the while helping them see that they have a path to becoming a first responder.

They toured Deschutes Co 9-1-1, Redmond Police Department, Redmond Fire Department, Redmond National Guard Armory, and had guest speakers including RPD K-9 Officer John Zundel and drug dog Sadie, RPD Sgt. Josh Powers and K-9 Maverick, DC911 Supervisor AJ Franzke, as well as future guest speakers RPD Lt. April Huey, SRO Sgt. Devon Lee, Community Service Officer Ciera Castleman, and St. Charles Tech Jason Kandle.
