Schoolwide Testing Day Scheduled for April 18

A schoolwide testing day has been scheduled for students in grades 9th-11th on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Students in 12th grade will have a Proficiency Day in which they can continue accessing Google Classroom to make progress toward graduation requirements. All classroom spaces will be used for testing on this day. As such, 12th grade students will be working remotely on their current courses.

RPA utilizes the ACT suite of assessments to establish proficiency levels for our students in the core subject areas of English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science, with 11th grade students also completing the Writing test. Each grade level will be taking a different version of the ACT: 9th graders will take the PreACT 8/9; 10th graders will take the PreACT; and 11th graders will take the full ACT with Writing. Each version is similarly structured and contains similar content, with the two PreACT versions pared down to better meet the age of the students.

These national assessments provide an external perspective of our students’ learning and help both students and RPA staff members with placement decisions and awarding credit by proficiency. Since the ACT is based on College and Career Readiness Standards, the results are applicable for all students. For students heading to college, the results can be used as a gauge toward college readiness and admissions requirements, and for students heading in a different direction, the results can help gauge career readiness and point to possible career domains. For these reasons, the expectation is that all students take their respective assessments.

On April 18th, we are asking that all 9th- 11th-grade students arrive no later than 9:00 a.m., so that they can be in their testing locations and begin at 9:15 a.m. sharp. When students are finished with their tests, they will be excused for the day, which means that most students will be excused between 12:00 P.M. and 1:30 P.M. RPA will provide lunch for all students. Students will be given their testing locations and other test-day specifics in early April. Additional specifics are provided below. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Instructor Hector West or 541.410.2167.
