SBAC Testing Information

As a public charter school, the Redmond Proficiency Academy provides unique educational opportunities for all students. As a public charter school in Oregon, we are required to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in statewide assessments. These assessments, commonly known as Smarter Balanced or SBAC tests, are given annually to students in grades 3-8 and grade 11. These assessments occur each spring and will be scheduled in April and May at RPA.

As a school of choice, we believe in providing options for students and families. Oregon House Bill 2655 permits parents to annually opt-out of Oregon statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math. Attached you will find a form from the Oregon Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of Language Arts and Math testing for the 2021-2022 school year.

All 8th and 11th-grade students are also scheduled to take Oregon’s Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) Science Assessment. The OSAS requires a separate exemption form as OAR 581-022-1910 allows school districts to excuse students from a state-required program or learning activity, including state testing, to accommodate a student’s disabilities or religious beliefs. The exemption form is attached here.

RPA has an annual assessment plan in place that includes either Pre-ACT, ACT, or IXL Diagnostic testing for all of our students. We use the data from these tests to determine student class placements and personalize instruction for students. We are always happy to share these assessment results with families.

If you choose to have your student opt-out of the required state tests, simply complete the forms and return them to our office. RPA appreciates your support of our students and our school, and we will support and respect the decisions you make regarding this matter.
