RPA welcomes new FAN Advocate

Redmond Proficiency Academy’s (RPA) newest FAN Advocate, Melanie Spencer, joins RPA from Vancouver School District in Vancouver, Wash., where she worked for 18 years as a Teen Parent Coordinator and Child Care Director. 

Family Access Network, or FAN, exists to offer assistance, possibility and hope to Central Oregon families in need by connecting them with crucial resources to help children flourish in school and in life.  

“I’m excited to begin the valuable and rewarding work of advocating for RPA students by providing them with opportunities that lead to positive outcomes,” Spencer said. “RPA and the Redmond School District offer a strong support system for their students and families, and I’m looking forward to being a part of this team.”  

Spencer’s work will center around linking children and families to critical basic need services with the goal of keeping children healthy and in school.   

FAN is unique to Central Oregon, located in nearly all public schools across Central Oregon. Working through a dedicated FAN Advocate, a child or parent is connected to essential services such as food, shelter, heating, health care, clothing and more.

Spencer has an office at RPA’s middle school and high school campus, but will work from home until schools can safely reopen due to COVID-19.
