RPA Students Learn from local Search and Rescue Volunteers

RPA Students were lucky enough to get a visit from Deschutes County Search and Rescue volunteers this week during June term. Students in the Trekking Central Oregon and Sirens and Shields: Exploring First Responders classes joined together for a group presentation from two local volunteers, Ashley Cedzo and Taylor Bacci.

The SAR volunteers brought one of their emergency vehicles fully stocked with Search and Rescue gear. Students were able to ask questions, view gear, and hear first hand stories from first responders.

“Deschutes County Search and Rescue volunteers were amazing and our students loved learning from them! There are so many ways to volunteer and we loved learning some important tips for our Trekking Central Oregon classes for recreating in the Central Oregon outdoors” said teacher Laurel Eberhart.

“The SAR presentation was extremely fun and informative, said Ariel Haro, a student in the Sirens and Shields. “I learned that Search and Rescue not only finds and rescues people but they aid the police departments in finding evidence. Learning about the myriad of missions they go on and the training it takes was cool.”
