RPA Senior Accepted Into Prestigious Writing Workshops

RPA senior Norah Taylor was recently accepted into two prestigious writing workshops: the Fir Acres Writing Workshop at Lewis and Clark College in Portland and the Kenyon Young Writers Workshop at Kenyon College in Ohio.

An aspiring writer, Taylor said she applied for the programs because she wants to study creative writing in college and learn in an environment of peers who are also inspired by the craft of writing.

“When I saw the email from Kenyon – I was nervous to open it, and then it said “Congratulations!,” I was in shock,” Taylor said. “Then I was also accepted to Lewis & Clark. I was so excited!”

Taylor credit’s RPA’s open curriculum and proficiency model for allowing her the flexibility and independence to focus on her passions and talents.

“Mr. DeChristopher has made a huge impact on my creative writing life – he’s encouraged my work not just as a teacher, but as a fellow writer,” she said. “And, he wrote the letters of recommendation that helped me get selected for these programs.”

Due to overlapping dates, Taylor will only attend the Kenyon program, but is grateful about being accepted into two renowned writing programs.

About the workshops:

The prestigious Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop is one of the world’s most highly selective programs for talented teen writers. Based on my submitted writing samples, I was accepted from among a record number of applicants from over forty states and twenty-five foreign countries. I will spend two weeks on the campus of Kenyon College – home of the renowned Kenyon Review literary journal – studying multiple genres with distinguished faculty and  respected published authors. kenyonreview.org/high-school-workshops/

Fir Acres Writing Workshop at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon is also among the nation’s most highly regarded youth writing programs, and awards just 60 students a spot in the two-week residential program respected for its teaching faculty and visiting writers. This year’s applicant pool was the largest in the program’s history. college.lclark.edu/programs/fir_acres/
