RPA Middle School Offering Summer School Programs


We are excited to announce that RPA will be offering a variety of summer school programs to keep students engaged and learning all summer long. RPA will be offering the Online RPA Middle School (MS) Summer School Program in July and August and onsite summer workshops in August for all current and incoming RPA middle school students. RPA is also partnering Central Oregon Community College (COCC), OSU-Cascades, and the Redmond Area Parks and Recreation District (RAPRD) to offer their summer school programming to RPA students at no cost. Students are welcome to enroll in multiple programs if it works with their schedules.

Middle School Course Descriptions:

Middle School Online Language Arts

6th Grade Online IXL Language Arts

6th-grade students will be introduced to the IXL personalized platform, which includes 8,000+ skills that are scaffolded to help students target specific areas of need. After taking an initial Reading/Language Arts diagnostic test, IXL personalizes lessons for students. It provides each student with a Recommendations page with personalized suggestions to target trouble spots, master current skills, and tackle new challenges.

7/8th Grade Online IXL Language Arts

7/8th grade students will use the IXL personalized platform, which includes 8,000+ skills that are scaffolded to help students target specific areas of need. Middle School Onsite Summer Workshops

Arts Camp Session 1 (Onsite with Smith on August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th  from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Middle School Campus)

During Arts Camp, we will jump into various hands-on art activities and learn about mixed mediums. Students will learn how to make homemade paper, bracelets and ‘Ojo de Dios’. We will also create fun word art projects where students will combine art with writing. All levels are welcome. 

Arts Camp Session 2 (Onsite with Smith on August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th  from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the Middle School Campus)

We are excited to offer a Camp 6 program for incoming sixth graders and a Camp 7/8 for seventh and eighth grade students who are new to RPA. These camps will orient new students to RPA and give them a chance to get to know our highly engaging staff. Camp 6 and Camp 7/8 students will learn about unique RPA systems and will engage in on-site activities to foster student engagement and enjoyment. Two different sessions will be offered to allow students and families the flexibility to pick the dates they would like to attend. Session One will take place on August 16, 17, and 18 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the middle school campus. Session Two will take place on August 23, 24, and 25 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the middle school campus.  Students only need to sign up for one session, as the sessions both offer the same activities and information.

Leadership Workshop (Onsite with Kirk on August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Middle School Campus)

Let’s start this year off with a RAD mindset! Are you interested in being a student leader at RPA? Then this workshop is for you! We will spend 6 days creating culture and setting goals for the upcoming school year, creating week 1 activities for all students to participate in, and we will take some time to get to know ourselves as leaders and learn to harness the power we have to make a positive impact on our school and world. Some fun activities will include: team bonding and skill-enhancing games, arts and crafts including puffy paint t-shirts, completing surveys of personal leadership styles, and creating a personal leadership dream board based on those. Students will also learn how to do event planning, including marketing, decorating, hosting, etc., and use these skills we will plan multiple RPA culture setting week one activities.

Outdoor Recreation (Onsite with Fisher on August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th  from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Middle School Campus)

If you are interested in getting outside, hiking, identifying wildlife, making easy outdoor meals, and playing outdoor team games, join our Outdoor Adventures class!  Aside from having fun, we will focus on developing teamwork, decision-making, building self-esteem, and growing personal confidence.         

Recreation and Games Session 1  (Onsite with Pupo on August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the Middle School Campus)

Be ready to engage in all kinds of exciting activities and games, including gaga ball, sprout ball, and basketball. This is a high-energy workshop so be prepared to be active and have a great time!

Red Cross Babysitting Workshop (Onsite with Bremont on August 16th, 17th, 18th, 23rd, 24th, and 25th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Middle School Campus)

Are you interested in becoming a babysitter? Do you already babysit and want to make sure you know how to respond to an emergency? The Oregon Babysitter Training course from the American Red Cross is for students ages 11 to 14, and is designed to help students understand the proper techniques for caring for infants and children and to help students become more capable and confident babysitters. After successfully completing the Red Cross babysitter training, students will receive both their Red Cross babysitter training certification as well as receive their CPR certification. Space is limited to the first 16 students. Students must attend every session to be certified

RPA Sing Workshop (Onsite with Wade on August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th  from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm at the Middle School Campus)

Come sing with us! We will spend the week learning vocal warm-ups and choir games and then singing our hearts out. We will explore a variety of music and leave time for karaoke, musical theater and more. 

Theater: Fractured Fairy Tales (Onsite with Wade on August 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, and 11th  from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at the Middle School Campus)

We’ll spend the week exploring far away lands, magic and talking animals as we read, discuss, write and perform our own fractured fairytales! This class will include group instruction, theater games and time to create, write and perform your own fractured fairytale. 

Onsite Community Courses (RPA will pay for all associated costs)

COCC Youth Camps (Various COCC locations with COCC Staff)

Interested students can also participate in COCC Youth Camps that focus on enhancing student culinary and language skills. You can find out more about COCC Youth Camps here. You will want to sign your student up using this COCC link. New camps are constantly being added so check back regularly here for new camp opportunities. Redmond Area Parks and Recreation District (RAPRD) Summer Activities (RAPRD sites with RAPRD staff)

Parks and Recreation District (RAPRD). RAPRD is offering a variety of summer activities including yoga, kendo, photography, youth tech camps, sports camps, and skills clinics. You can find out more about RAPRD summer activities at their website. RPA will pay for the costs of RPA students to participate in RAPRD summer activities. Families will need to create an account (if they don’t already have one) and RPA will credit that account for the cost of the summer activity.
