RPA freshmen return from college visits equipped with information and options

Redmond Proficiency Academy (RPA) freshman students recently returned from two separate college tour trips, one visiting Willamette University and Oregon State University, and the other traveling to Western Oregon University and Linfield College, where they explored a variety of higher education options and learned about the college process.    

“This is one of my favorite experiences every year,”  said Hallie Caron, freshman teacher. “The goal is to share possible opportunities with our students as freshmen. They have years to figure out what they want to do, but this field trip begins the process of exploration.”

The college visits were an opportunity for students to experience what it’s like to be on a college campus. During their tours, they met with students who told them about their college education, what they might choose to study in college, and how to pay for their education.   

“The college visit was a really beneficial experience,” said Hadassah Hughes, freshman. “I’m still not sure what I want to do with my future, but being on a college campus helped me start to visualize what my future could look like.”

Students at each college were treated to a meal in the cafeteria, student information sessions, a campus tour, and talks with admissions counselors. 

RPA has been participating in college visits since 2014 through Freshman Seminar, a course designed to support students during their freshman year of high school.
