Proficiency Fridays – Electric Vehicles

Math teacher Chris Eberle has been using his Proficiency Fridays activity periods to teach his students about electric vehicles. Mr. Eberle did an introduction at the beginning of the year so that students understood how they work and the pros and cons of owning an electric vehicle. A Tesla owner himself, Mr. Eberle was able to offer students a virtual ride-along and a talk about what it is like to own an electric vehicle.
Proficiency Fridays were formed to provide an opportunity for fun and engaging activities for students at RPA. Created by educators, the activities range from clubs to virtual outdoor activities. Topics typically cover areas teachers are passionate about, allowing them the opportunity to share this passion with students.
In the past few weeks, he has moved to a comparison of different manufacturers and models that compete with each other in the market. Students explore websites and look at the offerings and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each model.
“My goal is to educate students on this growing segment of the auto industry and look at some of the cutting edge technology that could be an option when they purchase cars in the near future,” Eberle said.
This week, Eberle and his students will take a look at the electric truck market by comparing the Rivian R1T with the Tesla Cybertruck and GMC Hummer EV.
