Photography class visits Smith Rock State Park

Instructor Julie Oneill’s middle school photography students recently took a field trip to Smith Rock for the many photography opportunities and to learn about the area.
The day included hiking to the famous rock that is featured on Clif Bar wrappers, with the walk led by Smith Rock Park Ranger Amy Sue, who was able to teach students about the area along the way.
Students also learned about various animal artifacts of animal bones, skulls, hides, and how to identify the footprints of animals from Robin Galloway, a retired OSU professor.
A volunteer with Fans of Deschutes trained the students on how to use binoculars and they were given a full-color book on identifying birds in the Central Oregon area.
