Oregon School Closure Information Update – April 8, 2020

Dear RPA Students, Families and Staff,
This afternoon, based on the impact of COVID-19 in our state, Governor Kate Brown announced the closure of Oregon’s schools for the rest of the year, saying, “The best thing we can do for the health of our children, and for the thousands of educators across the state, is to give everyone certainty by announcing the decision today to close in-person classes for the remainder of the school year.”
While we understand and feel your disappointment that in-person classes are closed for the academic year, as I detailed in my webinar yesterday, we are excited to work with you to have a successful completion of your second-semester. RPA’s “Distance Learning For All” is designed to actively engage students in their courses so that they will earn grades and credits during this period of school closure.
We view this is an opportunity that is tailor-made for RPA, and we are excited that our students will be able to earn credits and grades for demonstrating their proficiency over the coming months. RPA’s “Distance Learning for All” and its core tenets of care, community, and continuity of learning align with our vision, mission, and guiding principles.
We know that many of you are facing challenges and feeling hardships at this time and we at RPA want to support you and your families over the coming weeks and months. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Amy Kappel at amy_kappel@rpacademy.org.
Thanks, and take good care.
Sincerely,
Jon Bullock
Executive Director
