HS midterm information for students and families

The middle of Semester One is quickly approaching, and staff at Redmond Proficiency Academy are excited to share information about the remainder of this grading period.

The Next Two Weeks:

Over the course of the next two weeks, students will engage in midterm assessments, ACT Aspire testing, and completing coursework to demonstrate proficiency. Midterm week is Oct. 14-18, 2019. Students should spend the next two weeks of the semester focused on academic achievement. Students will take their midterms during normally scheduled class time.

Below is a list of supports and academic/behavioral expectations designed to help students for next week and midterm week.

All-School Study Zone:

Starting Monday, Oct. 7 and continuing through the midterm week, RPA will enact an all-school study zone. This means that the Student Union, the study labs on the 3rd floor of Glacier, and the Learning Annex will be considered study spaces. Please be respectful of students studying during these times.

Proficiency Day:

On Friday, Oct. 11, RPA will host proficiency day for all students. There will be no regularly scheduled classes on this day. These are times when teachers will arrange study groups, make appointments with students, and provide midterm preparation and review sessions. Students should make appointments with their teachers on proficiency day if they need one on one assistance.

Proficiency Hours:

Proficiency Hours are designed to provide students with additional time to engage in enriching learning experiences and to receive additional instruction (both in small groups or individually).  Students who are seeking additional opportunities to demonstrate proficiency, to gain knowledge and skills to improve their proficiency, and/or are in need of additional help to demonstrate proficiency should plan to attend.  Teachers will be inviting students who they feel could benefit from extra time, but all students are welcome to participate in our Proficiency Hours program. Each scheduled Proficiency Hours opportunity will have a core subject focus.  On Thursday, Oct. 10 from 2:00 p.m-3:30 p.m., students who need assistance in any humanities courses (Language Arts, Social Studies) will be able to receive assistance from teaching staff. On Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m., students who need assistance in any math courses will be able to obtain assistance from teaching staff. On Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. students who need assistance in any science courses will be able to obtain assistance from teaching staff.

Students should use this time of the semester to focus on completing coursework and turning in any missing assignments. As always, teachers and staff are available to help in class, by appointment, and in study labs. Parents and students are encouraged to log into Alma to monitor academic progress and are welcome to email or call staff to set up meetings with teachers.
