Middle School Students Attend Rube-a-thon Event

A group of Middle School students recently attended a Rube-a-thon event at Central Oregon Community College, where they had to compete against twenty-eight other teams.

The event celebrated the creative problem-solving approach of Rube Goldberg Machines, which are contraptions that complete a task in an overly complicated way.

The objective of the competition was to build a contraption that could put toothpaste on a toothbrush. Students were given a box of common items and 90 minutes to complete the task.

“It was amazing to see the level of teamwork, communication, and creativity displayed by these young minds,” said Kyle Chown, assistant middle school director.

The Rube-a-Thon was coordinated by the Central Oregon STEM Hub.
