Middle School Robotics Teams Earn Honors at Qualifying Tournament

RPA Middle School students recently participated in a LEGO Robotics Qualifying Tournament at Mountain View High School in Bend, taking home awards and qualifications for the state tournament.

A total of 18 teams competed, three were from RPA. RPA High School students Isabelle Kizans and Alex Larson coached the teams the entire semester and at the event.

“Our students put forth their best efforts and I am incredibly proud of all that they accomplished over the past few months in order to prepare for the event,” said middle school science teacher Andrea Adams.

Teams not only had to build and code a robot to complete timed challenges, they also had to design a creative prototype for a new product that represented their unique selves. This involved presenting to a panel of judges made from scientists and technology specialists in our community.

Each team took home an award:

  • Liam G, Logan H, and Joshua L – Best Innovation Project
  • Nicky G, Miles B, Clayton C, and Keller S – Best Demonstration of Teamwork
  • Madisyn A and Cooper L – Best Engineering Design, as well as earning 5th Place and qualifying for the state tournament in January.
