Environmental Club spruces up Glacier Building

On Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, members of Redmond Proficiency Academy’s (RPA) Environmental Club spent the morning planting a variety of plants in the beds around RPA’s High School building on Glacier Ave.

In an effort to create a more sustainable and earth-friendly campus, the club decided that low water, drought-resistant native plants would be the perfect fit, explained Amy Herauf, high school science instructor.

The native plants will also attract native pollinators such as Monarch butterflies.

Most of the plants are small and difficult to recognize now but will grow bigger and bloom in the spring. Herauf and her students marked the beds with bright green flags so people do not step on them.

The Environmental Club has plans for adding even more plants to the beds in the spring. Students interested in club membership or helping out can meet with the club on Thursdays at 9:30 – 10 a.m. in Room F101 in the Forest Building.
