End of Year Family Communication

Dear Incoming RPA High School Families, Students, and Staff
We want to thank you for the patience, understanding, and flexibility you have shown over the 2020-2021 school year. We also want to thank you for all you have done to support learning from home. We know it wasn’t always easy! We are reaching out today with important end of year information including updates about what next school year could look like, student fees, and Summer School. There is still a lot that we do not know about how things will look next year and we plan to share more details about our plans for next year in August, including our start time, additional details about the daily schedule, and the 2021-2022 Course Catalog. The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is expected to release new Ready School Safe Learners (RSSL) guidance in July. This guidance will enable us to finalize any needed COVID-19 procedures and protocols for the upcoming school year. We do know that we will offer both RPA On Campus and RPA Anywhere learning models. We have included more details about these learning model choices below. We would like to thank all families for completing the Learning Model Choice Survey. Your input will help us best prepare class schedules, transportation, and other essential details for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Please note that the first day of school for high school students is on Monday, August 30th. We will share the Week One Schedule with students and families in early August.
RPA Learning Model Descriptions: RPA Anywhere: RPA Anywhere will offer a variety of learning opportunities that allow students to learn from home – or anywhere. Both synchronous and asynchronous classes will be offered, and students can build a schedule that fits their unique situation and unique learning needs. Asynchronous learning opportunities will include online courses offered through Edgenuity and teacher-created online courses in which students will engage in self-directed learning with the robust support of RPA teachers. Online courses offered through Edgenuity’s award-winning platform combine rigorous content with direct-instruction videos from expert, on-screen teachers with interactive learning tools and resources to engage and motivate students.
Synchronous learning opportunities will include the option for students to participate in live remote classes where students attend virtually with RPA students and teachers. Since our focus at RPA is always personalization, students will have the option within RPA Anywhere to pick all synchronous classes or asynchronous classes, or even choose from a mixture of both. RPA Anywhere students are also always welcome to attend any in-person classes that RPA offers.
RPA On Campus: While dependent upon guidance from ODE and OHA, we are planning to operate RPA on a regular onsite schedule next year. This means that we are anticipating that middle and high school students will attend school five days a week. At the High School campus, students will attend classes on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday class schedule. We will also be offering some five day a week classes for high school students.
In previous years, students have been asked to help offset the cost of providing technology and transportation. RPA recognizes that many of our students and families have faced incredible hardships throughout the pandemic. RPA is pleased to announce that we will be waiving student fees for all students for the 2021-22 school year.
Redmond School District will be providing free meals for all children under the age of 18 throughout the summer at select locations. Details for the summer food program can be found here.We hope that you take the time to relax and have a great summer break. We are excited that some of our students will continue their learning with us over the summer and look forward to seeing these students in July. During these unique times, we greatly appreciate your support of our efforts to create a safe environment for our students to learn. We look forward to continuing to provide a proficiency based education in a personalized learning environment that is safe, positive, and enriching for all of our students in the 2021-2022 school year.
Sincerely,
